INDIANA SECTION OF THE MATHEMATICAL ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

CITATION TO

Jeremy Case

The Indiana Section Distinguished Service Award was initiated in 1993 to honor a member of the Section by acknowledging his or her extraordinary contributions to the Section and outstanding efforts consistent with the stated purposes of the Mathematical Association of America and the Section, namely, assisting in promoting the interests of, and improving education in, the mathematical sciences in America, especially at the collegiate level.

This year’s recipient is Professor Jeremy Case who has been an active contributor to the Indiana Section of the MAA. For the last 30 years Jeremy has been inspiring future mathematicians both in the classroom and through his very active professional life.

Jeremy’s service to IN-MAA began in 1995 and is very extensive. He is currently the chair of the section. Here is a brief list of his notable contributions to both the section and the MAA:

  • IN-MAA Distinguished Service Award Committee Member (2003-2005)

  • IN-MAA Distinguished Teaching Committee Member (2008-2011)

  • IN-MAA Vice-chair (2005-2006) and (2024-2025)

  • IN-MAA Chair (2006-2007, 2025-2026)

  • SIGMAA Statistics and Data Science Education Vice Chair (2022), Chair (2023), Past Chair (2024)

  • MAA sponsored Project NExT Consultant (2009-2013)

  • Editorial Board, Dolciani Mathematical Expositions of the MAA (2008-2014)

  • Referee for The American Mathematical Monthly, Mathematics Magazine, College Mathematics Journal, and Primus

Beyond his service to IN-MAA and MAA, Jeremy has served as the department chair at Taylor University on several occasions, but in the interest of mentoring other faculty in leadership roles, he has encouraged a rotation of this leadership responsibility while offering his valuable assistance.

In addition to service, Jeremy is recognized as an outstanding teacher. He was awarded the much-deserved Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award at Taylor University. He served as a leader for Taylor University’s Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence. While he willingly teaches any course needed, his department especially values his influence on their majors in the junior research course, oversight of the summer practicum experiences, and the culmination of the major in the capstone course. Jeremy teaches with passion and care for all students, and he works hard to include active learning and other effective learning techniques to engage all students.

Jeremy has also been actively engaged in scholarship. He has 33 professional presentations primarily emphasizing topics that improve mathematics education and 17 professional publications primarily focused on learning mathematics.

Jeremy has clearly demonstrated a career of distinguished service to the promotion of mathematics in general and very specifically to the mathematicians of Indiana. He exemplifies an excellent model of professional service.

In recognition of his numerous contributions to mathematics at the university, state, and national level, we congratulate Dr. Jeremy Case as the recipient of the 2026 Indiana Section Distinguished Service Award.
